United States representatives pass a law to prohibit online gambling
It is still unknown whether this law will have the votes required in the Senate. A representatives committee in United States has approved a law project, which prohibits online gambling, an industry estimated in $12 thousand million dollars.
Associated Press informed that the project was orally sanctioned by the criminal judiciary sub-committee. Now it is to be considered by the judiciary committee.
This law could update and extend the existent federal law so as to involve every way of gaming all over the United States, and ban any gambling activity that implies credit card, checks and transference payment though Internet. It might also prohibit playing on about 2,300 websites.
Nonetheless, it is not clear yet whether the law will obtain the number of votes it needs in both chambers. The Congress has a short period of sessions this year due to legislative elections next November.
According to American law, interstate gaming via phone is illegal, and other kinds of game will be banned too unless regulated by each state. The shares of some British gaming companies have already dropped as a result of the news regarding the advance of the law project. PartyGaming Plc and 888 Holdings’ shares dropped 5% each in the London Stock Exchange.
