Poker marathon for charity
Playing to help
On December 29th, Warwickshire will hold a 24-hour poker tournament in the name of charity. All the money collected will be given to the Myton House Hospice, an institution that needs £5 million to build and buy equipment for new facilities for their increasing number of patients. Fred Hepburn of Enterprise Inns, will host the poker marathon.

This event is possible thanks to the changes introduced by the 2005 Gambling Act, which allow pubs to offer low and no stakes poker. "I haven't got a 24-hour license so no alcohol will be served and there will be no spectators allowed between midnight and 10:00 GMT," Hepburn explained.

Hepburn also said that local restaurants would supply food through the night since players can’t play on an empty stomach. The tournament will take place at the Hod Carrier in Leamington Spa from 2 pm and so far, a good number of players have signed up for the charity event.

The organizers of the tournament said this event proves that entertaining games like poker can be used with charitable purposes and to encourage people to help others.
