Work has begun on a £7m project to transform Swansea
Developer Midas Property Services is working with gambling giant Aspers to renew the Swansea casino, due to open by the middle of next year.
The company is spending around £3.5m on mechanical and electrical engineering, including a top security system to prevent cheats.
Midas Property Services is the sister company of Midas Construction. The renewal will have up to 100 specialists working over the next seven months.
"The new casino is likely to create over 200 new jobs in Swansea and forms an important part of the on-going regeneration of the city," a spokesperson for the company said.
The new casino will include live gaming facilities including roulette, blackjack and poker, and top-of-the-art slot machines. It will also have bars and restaurants. The casino will have a "mini-spa" treatment area and an exclusive poker room, which promises to be "the largest in Wales".
"It's fantastic to be involved in such a prestigious project. As well as sourcing materials from all over the world and working with Australian architects, the project will also call for us to pay close attention to local needs due to the confined nature of the site. At one point we will have to deliver the mechanical plant for the project onto the roof of the building. We're looking forward to taking on the challenges and to delivering a finished project which should be breathtaking," Mark Taylor of Midas Property Services said.
